Gemory
Overview
Gemory is a two player, competitive memory game prototype developed in two weeks while abiding by the predetermined design constraint of “beyond entertainment.” One player is a dragon protecting its treasure horde while the other is a dwarf who is looting said treasure. The game is divided into rounds where players takes turns playing as each character. The dwarf’s objective is to stay on the board for as long as they can while the dragon’s goal is to match the tiles to knock the dwarf out as quickly as possible. Once the dwarf falls the players swap roles. Both players see the gems associated with the tiles and can memorize the board layout to use to their advantage. The players have access to abilities with varying effects, such as the dynamite item that randomizes the board.
This game also won the “Most Fun” award as part of a semester-long competition among sixty prototypes.

Responsibilities and Contributions
As the sole technical designer on this project, I used C# to script the user interface and supporting classes such as the round and score managers. This required, due to our small team size and limited time frame, that I work closely with both our 2D artist as well as our programmer to ensure the needed art assets were produced for the UI and that they integrated well with the gameplay systems.
The contribution I am most proud of is the design and implementation of the results screen. During our interim status update, we were advised to make the results more visceral and straightforward to the player as our simple text display felt too sterile. The redesigned results screen still accomplished the goal of declaring the victor. Now, however, it also emphasized the score differential as players could tangibly see the side-by-side comparison of the amount of gems they collected (aka, how long they were able to survive on the map as the dwarf). Having the gems fall in real time also provided the extra bonus of adding an element of suspense to the results screen, increasing player anticipation for the final results.
